Onward to Colorado

After an exhaustingly great three days in Vegas, we are making our departure. We woke up early today in hopes to get to Glenwood Springs with a little daylight left for some photos. Tomorrow we truck through to South Dakota.

We are hoping to see the Arches in utah today. Should make for some great photos. I now have 50gb of photos and videos to go through when I get home, and The collection is only growing larger…

Today was our first day at CES. Wow. What a crazy experience that is. So many people. So much traffic. So many booths to see. It’s chaos, but it was definitely a lot of fun. After CES, we went back to the hotel to grab some lunch, and pick up the replacement lens Lens Rentals sent me. We decided to head back to the Hoover Dam, and have another go at some photos with the wide angle lens now in hand. Wow. I am so happy we did.

This shot was taken with the Tokina 11-16mm. This is an unedited shot. It was a 30 second exposure. I am in love with it. Jupiter is shining bright above the bridge, and a danger sign is showing on the brick wall. So happy with how it turned out.

We are pretty damn beat after a long day of walking. Tomorrow, we plan to attend CES, and try to see the remaining booths we have missed. Once we’ve had our fill of CES, we are going to head to the strip and walk along doing some people watching and snapping some photos. It should be a lot of fun.

Hoover Dam. This was a 15 second exposure. One of my favorite shots I’ve ever taken.

We almost ran out of gas driving through the desert. We couldn’t find a gas station to save out life. We see a very small town off the main highway. We decide to pull over and ask the locals where they fill up. Scariest town ever. This was their laundromat. Their medical center was very similar. It was pretty awesome though. And made for a great photo.

We are on our way to the Grand Canyon. We were going to do the skywalk, but found out they don’t allow cameras out on the bridge… What is the point!? Oh well, onto the national park we go, then to the hover dam, then Vegas. Oh, the desert is pretty cool. (Taken with instagram)

Roadtrip Problem #03: Alright, pulled the first photo so I could better explain what happened. So we were driving down the highway in New Mexico when we both began to smell a strong scent of antifreeze. I just assumed it was the cars in front of us, as the ford escape rental only had 13k miles on it. A short time later out windows began to fog. Bad. To the point where we could not defog them with the heater. We tried to whip it off with a towel when we realized the windows were covered in antifreeze vapor. It smeared all over making it extremely hard to see. To make matters worse, the vapor was coming in through the heater, so we could keep the windows from fogging. It was a mess. We finally got into Flagstaff, AZ and called Enterprise. They told us they would replace the vehicle for us, but we’d have to pick it up. Turns out, we were upgraded to a gorgeous, and even more new, ford explorer. We were very happy. We keep running into odd problems on this trip, but it is creating good stories and great memories. I can’t wait to see what this adventure holds next. Now time for sleep. Grand canyon and Vegas tomorrow!!! (Taken with instagram)

New Mexico = Wasteland

There sure isn’t a whole lot to New Mexico. We are almost half way through it and it’s all hills and desert. Very cool, but makes finding good rest areas difficult. Especially when most are closed. Oh, and it’s snowing…

Lens Rental Update

After explaining to LensRentals.com, they told me they will ship a replacement lens to Vegas for me. That was pretty awesome of them. Sucks I will not have it for the Grand Canyon, but I can make do with the lenses I’ve got, I guess.
